坪林 Pinglin
The beautiful rural township of Pinglin hosts the Pinglin Industry Tea Museum, the largest museum in the world dedicated to tea. This will be a great place for us to start on our journey to understand the tea history and culture of Taiwan! We also will explore Old Pinglin Street, where we can find local specialty food and enjoy some Pouchong Tea (包種茶) here - a specialty of Pinglin.
木柵觀光茶園 Muzha Tea Plantations
Only 35-40 minutes by car, we will visit the Muzha Tea Plantations. We also can taste the latest teas by making and appointment with the Taipei Tea Promotion Center (台北市茶研發推廣中心).
貓空 Maokong
Maokong is quite nearby and we can ride the gondola where we can take in the breathtaking vistas of Taiwan tea country. We can dine in any of the teahouses in this area.
台北市師大夜市 Taipei City NTNU Night Market
Taking the MRT to NTNU night market, we will finish up the day by catching a late night snack from the various vendors lining the street. To preserve our theme, we can grab a bubble tea to experience the more contemporary tea culture. We will stay in a youth hostel in Taipei City.

We will wake up early and depart for our long day of exploring and traveling.
鶯歌 Yingge
We will stop by Yingge, where we will find the Yingge Pottery Street where we can see and shop for unique tea pottery and even try making our own! We also will visit the Yingge Ceramics Museum, an internationally famous museum that captures the history of pottery and ceramics in Taiwan.
新竹北埔 Hsinchu Beipu
Hsinchu Beipu, about 1 hour 15 minutes by car, is a wonderful place to try the famous Oriental Beauty Tea (東方美人茶). There is a very large tea festival in Beipu in July. Beipu is also famous for Hakka culture, which we will explore while visiting. We can also try the Beipu Ground Tea, a specialty of the Hakka people. We will feast on local Hakka cuisine. We can also cool off at a local cold spring before our long travel to our next destination that evening.
日月潭 Sun Moon Lake
We will spend the evening traveling south, about 3 - 4 hours by car. The scenery along the drive will be beautiful, as we wind our way through the mountains. We will stay at a minsu (民宿) near Sun Moon Lake.

Sun Moon Lake is also very rich in culture, particularly to aboriginal Thao (邵族) tribe. We will rent bicycles and travel around the lake, while taking in the aboriginal art. We will also try the local Sun Moon Lake Red Tea (日月潭紅茶).
鹿谷鄉 Lugu
Only an hour away by car, we will try the local Dong Ding Oolong tea (凍頂烏龍茶) in the township of Lugu. In Lugu, we can roast our own tea leaves to make our own tea and try many local foods made with tea. We will also visit Kylin Lake (麒麟潭) before traveling our next destination.
阿里山 Alishan
We will make the three and a half hour drive during the evening, where will stay at a minsu in Alishan (阿里山).
阿里山國家森林遊樂區 Alishan National Scenic Area
In Alishan, we will taste many varieties of the famous Taiwan High Mountain Tea (高山茶) while we watch the sunrise over the mountain. We will also enjoy the incredible scenery while spending the day at the Alishan National Scenic Area - from bamboo forests, waterfalls, to canyons, not to mention the famous fireflies. The Alishan area is also home to the aboriginal Tsou tribe, and we expect to see a lot of their culture here.
台中市 Taichung City
After a long day we will travel to Taichung City (台中市) to enjoy dinner at the modern Cha for Tea restaurant in Taichung City, were all the food menu items are made with tea as an ingredient. We will then go to the night market and spend the last night there as final night of the four day trip. While not directly related to our search for tea, Taichung City has some amazing nightlife activities that will be a sensational end to a wonderful trip.
