After our night close to Taipei Main Station, we took the MRT (underground) to go to the top of the highest place of Taipei city. Situated in the business district, the Taipei 101 tower is 509 meter high. With a sunny sky, the view from the 88th floor is really amazing. We clearly see all the surrounding mountains. After having touch the sky, we went down to the ground and spent some time in the Page One bookstore at the 5th floor in the basement of the tower. This bookstore have really many books in english. Always worth having a look there to see what are the new english books about Taiwan.
Noon appeared and we both felt we should spent some time to have some dumplings in Din Tai Fung restaurant in ZhongXiao East road. We did not wait at all but inside it was so crowded. We ordered some pork, shrimp dumpling and some dessert with red bean. All was tasty. Indeed the pasta is so thin and when you eat the dumplings you do not feel too full...so you can order more. After having paid the bill, we just look at the chiefs cooking the dumplings in the baskets over the steam. A nice show for the eyes.
At the end of the afternoon, we took the train from Taipei Main Station to Songshan Station. We arrived a bit early and the night market of Raohe was not yet fully opened. We started with some papaya drink and tea. I then decided to suffer a bit and ask this woman to remove the dead skin from the top of my face. It is so surprising how she can do her job. But it hurts ! She then told me not to wash my face for the next 24 hours. All this costed 250 NT$ (5 Euros). I could have tried foot massage which is so popular in Taiwan but it will then took 40 minutes for 500 NT$. Alicia got some flowers on her nails. We then took our time to sit down and eat stincky tofu. In the past i thought it would smell so bad but when i tasted it was not so strong. The sauce and vegetable were pretty good. I made a good choice. Alicia took a soup with some meat. We then hanged out in the small streets of the night market just looking at all that food that people can prepare. Just for this, a trip to Raohe is worth a visit !
