First Day : Taichung to Sun Moon Lake to Taipei

With a sunny day we started our first day trip at 6.40am with the intention to reach Sun Moon Lake. We took the local train to Changhua, where we changed for the Jiji line train to Shuilei. We discussed a lot with a geography teacher with 55 students going to ride bike around Jiji. When we arrived in Shuilei, we found the bus booth but we realized we have one hour left in front of us. We then walked around in the morning market. Some people stopped us and even touched Alicia to tell her she was pretty. We were a bit surprised but all this was done with a smile. After a 40 minute journey, we ended in Sun Moon Lake at 11am. We rented an electrical bike for a 3 hour trip. We head up to Wen Wu temple to enjoy the view over the lake. When arrived, we plug in the electricity cable into the bike. Before entering the temple, we decided to have a break for lunch. The restaurant was not full so it was easy to get a seat. From our experience in Taiwan, we selected two local dishes : rice cooked in the wok with soya sauce and some vegetable and a three cup chicken dish. All was tasty. We then head up to Wen Wu temple dedicated to Guandi and Confucius. From the top of the temple, we admired the view above the yellow tile roof with the lake in the background. We came back to the visitor center in Shueishe where we book some seats for boat. We met a couple from Hualien and we talked about France and Taiwan during our two hour trip on the water. We stopped at the small island Lalu in the middle of the lake. It is the Thao tribe ancestors home and the shape of the floating docks and fields represent the eight trigrams, also called Ba Gua in Taoism. The second stop was a fish farm and then we went to the buddhist temple Syuanguang. When asking for the temple seal to put on our notebook, a man asked us where we came from. Few minutes later he came back with a booklet about Buddhism in french. I took it and will have a look later in the bus back to Taichung. From there we took the High Speed Rail to Taipei. We did enjoy the cool air of Sun Moon Lake. Trying electrical bike was also a new experience for us. Everywhere we went, people often asked us where we came from and why Alicia could speak chinese so well. For sure we will come back before leaving Taiwan at the end of the summer.
