叫我海王子

一切都是從海鮮開始的，Amon，25歲，土生土長台灣人，充滿好奇心。兩年前從台北出發到倫敦學插畫，人在異鄉，不停思念蚵仔煎、虱目魚肚、生炒花枝等等(落淚)。Jake，25歲，爵士吉他手科學家，博士就讀中，是一個18歲以前沒吃過海鮮，一吃就愛上的英國人(也是個島國)。自然而然，對海鮮的迷戀，延伸到對於海，以及這塊土地的歸屬感。

台灣四面環海，國人的生活總是脫離不了海洋、河川、水，從氣候、信仰，到飲食、休閒活動等。我們這次的旅行北以台中大甲鎮瀾宮---海的守護神媽祖所在地，經過高美濕地，南至嘉義東石鄉---牡蠣的故鄉，西至海洋活動最蓬勃的澎湖一帶，以中西部沿海為主要行腳據點，藉由錄影、拍照、速寫、訪問，呈現探訪西部海岸線的忠實紀錄!!!

 It all starts with a love of seafood. Amon, 25, (Taiwanese) am currently an illustration student in London and often dream about Taiwanese seafood, which always makes me think of home with fond memories. Jake, 25, (British), a PhD student in London, didn’t get in to seafood until he was 18, but has since developed a passion for it, traveling to many an exotic location to try weird and wonderful new tastes. I, This mutual love of seafood led us to want to explore the coasts and waters of Taiwan, and learn more about the elements of Taiwanese culture that are intertwined with the sea.

Due to Taiwan’s island environment, the sea has been an essential element in the development of the country since the first ancient civilizations. The mystical power of the sea exerts its influence over the weather, religion, diet and even leisure activities on the island. ‘Dajia Jenn Lann Temple,’ the biggest temple in Taiwan in Taichung County, enshrines Ma-Zu, guardian angel of the sea and all those who work at sea, highlighting the link between Taiwanese spirituality and the waters that surround the island. The local diet is influenced by the abundance of seafood, with the crowning glory being oysters, farmed in Ciayi county. Taiwan’s coastline also provides some of the best surfing, sailing and diving in the world, including Penghu Island, home of traditional free diving fishermen. We plan to visit and explore these destinations, talk to local people at work and play, surf the west coast’s swells, fearlessly sample the local cuisine, and film, sketch and write about our experiences in Taiwan’s Coastlines.
